In view of Professor Guoping Liu’s landmark contributions to research in the field of engineering, he has been named amongst Thomson Reuters Highly Cited Researchers, a list of the world’s leading scholars in the sciences and social sciences.
Thomson Reuters evaluate and recognize excellence in the scholarly community as demonstrated by the quantitative impact on the sciences, and consistently monitor the undeniable link between citations and influence. Professor Liu was selected as a Highly Cited Researcher due to the number of citations his work has received from his fellow researchers. Essentially, his peers have identified his contributions as being among the most valuable and significant in the field of engineering.
The global nature of this study highlights the researchers, institutions and countries on the cutting edge of science, those who are developing the innovations that will lead to a brighter tomorrow. In compiling the listing of the Highly Cited Researchers, Thomson Reuters’ analysts assessed papers indexed within the Web of Science between 2002 and 2012 in 21 broad fields of study. They tracked the authors who published numerous articles ranking among the top one percent of the most cited in their respective fields in a given year of publication.

Professor Guoping Liu in the Advanced Control and Network Technology Research Unit in the University of Glamorgan has been named an IEEE Fellow. He is being recognized for contributions to networked control systems. The IEEE Grade of Fellow is conferred by the IEEE Board of Directors upon a person with an outstanding record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest. The total number selected in any one year cannot exceed one-tenth of one- percent of the total voting membership. IEEE Fellow is the highest grade of membership and is recognized by the technical community as a prestigious honor and an important career achievement. 321 individuals have been elevated to IEEE Fellow for 2011. The IEEE is the world’s leading professional association for advancing technology for humanity. Through its 385,000 members in 160 countries, the association is a leading authority on a wide variety of areas ranging from aerospace systems, computers and telecommunications to biomedical engineering, electric power and consumer electronics.
